I am a University Teacher and Programme Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at The University of Sheffield. I am privileged to be able to help medical and healthcare practitioners to improve their knowledge, skills and confidence as educators, which is vital to ensure that the UK healthcare sector has the right knowledge and skills, in the right place, at the right time.
I have recently published a co-edited book which provides a comprehensive collection of case studies in contemporary UK Higher Education Personal Tutoring and Academic Advising. My previous book entitled ‘Effective Personal Tutoring in Higher Education‘ (Oct. 2018) was the first UK monograph on the topic in twelve years, promoting a more evidence-based approach to practice and situating advising and tutoring within the wider, international literature on student retention and success – click here to read some of the reviews. My first well-received book entitled ‘Becoming an Outstanding Personal Tutor: Supporting Learners through Personal Tutoring and Coaching’ for the further education sector was published in October 2015.
I have been Programme Director and module lead across a range of postgraduate education provision and have held a range of curriculum leadership, quality and teaching and learning enhancement roles, including being cross-institutional quality lead for student experience, personal tutoring & advising. I’m also a keen writer, researcher and blogger within teacher education, medical education, personal tutoring & academic advising, and student experience development and, as such, I’d welcome making connections about writing, research, speaking and professional development.
